The name of the Department of Information Research Methodology relates to the traditional terminological distinctions concerning the names of disciplines, research areas and study programmes in the field of information communication. The Department’s research interests reflect the interdisciplinary nature of its work and focus on the theoretical foundations and potential of information science research, the scope of information science as a research field, selected issues in research methodology (particularly in individual and group information management, information behaviour and internal/external communication strategies in organisations, including libraries and archives), methods for diagnosing information-related problems (especially in the areas of information transfer and data management, including ethical-information audits and quality management), business analytics methodology (including data mining and predictive analytics), and contemporary digital archiving methods (such as the creation of central repositories of digital resources). The Department also explores methods and techniques for evaluating the usability and accessibility of information systems, as well as metrics for assessing scientific information resources, including their interoperability.
