The Chair in Information Management conducts research in several areas. The first of them concerns the organisation of information and knowledge, in particular the theory, design and functioning of information retrieval languages, indexing in information retrieval systems, and terminology theory and practice. The second one focuses on broader issues related to information management in the information environment, with particular attention to information ecology, logistics and security. Yet another one is focused on the transfer of information between science and industry, supplemented by an interest in the legal conditions of information management, especially in the context of European Union regulations. The Chair also carries out research on information management in organisations, with particular emphasis on information culture and information transfer. Other areas of study include information control (digital footprints), the future of online privacy and climate change in the digital sphere.
- International Society for Knowledge Organization (ISKO) – The national (ISKO PL) and local (ISKO PL KR) branches of the Society are coordinated by Prof. Wiesław Babik. The Chair collects and archives publications issued by ISKO and prepares a bibliography of Polish scholarly literature on knowledge organisation for the journal Knowledge Organization.
- INFOTERM (International Information Centre for Terminology) – Established by UNESCO in 1971 in Vienna. Since 2009, Prof. Wiesław Babik has been responsible for cooperation with this centre and serves as INFOTERM’s national representative in Poland.
